I joined by happenstance when I was beginning to think about semi-retirement. I was into conversation with a guy at a party and he asked if I would like to come to his club as his guest. I had heard of Rotary but I was a bit hazy about what it did. I had assumed that it wasn’t for me. I returned a month or so later, once again, as guest, but by this time, I had made connections. We were on the same wavelength and they were so friendly and welcoming.

I liked a lot of the things they were doing in the community such as the big annual Fun Run for Prostate Cancer research: £440,000 over 10 years. It’s been life changing. A few months after joining I attended a regional conference, and my eyes were opened to the bigger picture. It wasn’t just my own club doing amazing things but Rotary clubs from all over the world.

The sense of purpose Rotary had given me was magnified by the sense of pride I had being a part of this body of ordinary people working together to do extraordinary things. I just can’t imagine my life without Rotary. I truly believe that Rotary has made me a better person.
